Now we have the full exposure concerning the situation.Through the help of an insider and three months of undercover investigation, a Chinese journalist exposed that there was an “underground dungeon” 地下囚牢 in Nanjing involved in BDSM. It is a hidden place where you just need to pay several hundred yuan for a private room and one or several female models whom you can tie up and even “punish” as you please.
This mysterious photography salon was later revealed to be Ruidu Zhuzhang 锐度主张. It was established in March 2005 with a professional website. More than 100 models have worked in their studios. Located in Changjiang Road, Nanjing, Ruidu offers studio rental, nude models rental, bound models rental and SM products.
Underneath the dim light, a studio with a small frontage hid a 500 square meter space divided into many private rooms. According to the manager who called himself “Da Jin” 大金 (Big Gold), there were two professional studios, a members’ activity area and four discussion rooms. Customers could discuss and raise special requests before choosing the models. The price for a professional studio with a “model” for two hours was 600 yuan, with members getting extra discounts.
The insider Jin Shao 金劭 (pseudonym) explained that their website had never opposed physical contact between customers and “models”. The customer service representative also admitted such a statement. “As long as no one’s life is endangered, usually anything is allowed.”
Ruidu had a discussion forum on their website, where anyone could register and make posts. The journalist found out that tens of thousands of people had registered the forum, with numerous posts even exceeding many other Chinese forums on the internet.
The forum implied that purchasing the 750-yuan (113 dollars) BDSM disc allowed one to become a member. Aside from being able to download and view even more BDSM photos and videos, members were able to participate in organized “group activities”, where they exchanged bondage techniques and knowledge with several models available for them to use as well. This group of people were called “SM clan” SM族.
Since April 2007, Nanjing Police and other related departments have already raided on the Ruidu studio several times. However, no illegal behaviour or prostitution were ever found or spotted, and there were no complaints of abusive behaviours either. The police could only persuade them not to run such a business and suggest the Administration for Industry and Commerce to strengthen supervision.
The Ruidu website was down and back on again several times since 2007. However, it is not available at the moment. Whether the Ruidu studio is running a sexual abuse business has not been decided by the Chinese authorities yet.
